CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION TRAINING PROGRAM

Topic: CLASSIFICATION AND CODING

OF DISEASES AND MORTALITY

The program is developed and implemented within the framework of the continuing education function of the Center for Support & Continuing Education (under the Vietnam Medical Association).


I. Organization & Student Management

Presiding Unit: Center for Support & Continuing Education.

Organization Conditions: Minimum of 15 registered students.

Student Management: In-person attendance check at the beginning and end of each training session and/or management via the center’s software; each practice group not exceeding 05 students.

Training Format: In-person and online.

Training Location: Center for Support & Continuing Education – Hall/meeting room and practice facilities (Hospital/Lab/Medical facility…)

Total Duration: 30 periods (22 theory periods, 08 practice periods).

Note: Practice facilities are adjusted according to the actual implementation of the program.


II. Program Objectives and Content

Program Objectives: Provide basic and updated knowledge on the classification and coding of diseases and mortality according to international standards (ICD) for medical staff.

Program Content:

  • Overview of the system for classification and coding of diseases and mortality (ICD).
  • Principles for determining the main disease and techniques for coding diseases and injuries.
  • Assessment of coding data quality from medical records.
  • Mortality coding techniques and the role of related professional ethical principles.
  • Examination and assessment of actual coding data quality.

Training Methods

  • Brief interactive presentations combined with group discussions.
  • Practice using checklists, demonstrating operations, and applying “hands-on instruction” methods.

III. Assessment & Certification

Participation Duration: Minimum 80% theory and 100% practice.

Assessment: Evaluation throughout from input to output; achieving a minimum of 80% of the total output score.

Certification: CME certificate – Topic: Classification and coding of diseases and mortality; valid according to Circular 32/2023/TT-BYT.
